Charlene was born and raised in Johannesburg, South Africa. She obtained her Bachelor of Education degree from Wits University, specialising in Foundation Phase and Early Childhood Development, and has been teaching since 2008.

Charlene believes in building strong, positive relationships based on mutual respect, open communication, and consistent routines, working closely with both students and parents. Her teaching approach promotes creativity and learning through play, making lessons engaging while supporting each child to reach their full potential.

Aspire International School has provided Charlene with the environment in which to bring this philosophy to life. With this vision, she leads Key Stage 1 alongside a dedicated and enthusiastic team of teachers and colleagues.

What do you enjoy most about teaching young children?

Answer:

I love seeing the rapid progress children make at this age. Their curiosity, honesty, and excitement for learning make every day different and rewarding. It is a privilege to help build the foundations that will support their future education.

The early years are essential for building confidence, independence, and a love of learning. Creating a safe, supportive, and engaging environment allows children to explore, ask questions, and develop both academically and socially.

I focus on building strong relationships and creating a positive, nurturing atmosphere. When children feel valued and supported, they are more willing to try new things, take risks, and believe in their own abilities.
