Physical Education
Jane Cassells is a Physical Education teacher at Aspire International School with a long and varied international teaching career. She graduated from Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh with a Bachelor of Education in Physical Education and began her career teaching in state schools in Scotland.
Her passion for sport and education soon took her overseas, first to Hong Kong as a sports coach, followed by ten years in Qatar at an international school. During this time, Jane held several senior roles, including PE Teacher, Head of PE, and Head of Key Stage 3. She then spent a further seven years teaching in France before relocating to Portugal and joining the AIS team.
Jane strongly believes in the power of physical education to develop far more than physical ability. Her lessons focus on building confidence, teamwork, resilience, and a lifelong appreciation for physical, mental, and social wellbeing. She aims to create a friendly, inclusive, and motivating learning environment where every student feels encouraged to participate and succeed.

What do you enjoy most about teaching Physical Education?
Answer:
I enjoy seeing students grow in confidence and discover what they are capable of. Physical Education gives every student the chance to succeed in different ways, whether through teamwork, personal improvement, or trying something new for the first time.
Why is Physical Education important for students?
Answer:
Physical Education helps students develop healthy habits that will stay with them for life. It also teaches important skills such as teamwork, resilience, discipline, and respect. These lessons extend far beyond the sports field and support students in all areas of their development.
What is your goal for students in your PE lessons?
Answer:
My goal is for every student to feel included, motivated, and proud of their progress. I want them to enjoy being active and to understand the importance of looking after their physical and mental wellbeing, both now and in the future.
