Ian studied mathematics and astrophysics before beginning his teaching career as a maths teacher in the UK, later becoming Head of Department. In 2018, as a single parent, he relocated to Portugal with his daughter, an opportunity that ultimately led to the creation and growth of Aspire International School.
Driven by positivity, strong relationships, and results, Ian is passionate about building a school where both students and teachers are encouraged to be the best versions of themselves. His leadership is rooted in high expectations, support, and a belief in what young people can achieve when given the right environment.
Outside of school life, Ian can usually be found in the gym or attempting to win a game of chess.

What drives you as School Director?
Answer:
I am driven by the belief that every student deserves an education that challenges, supports, and inspires them. My focus is on creating a positive environment where students and staff feel valued, motivated, and proud to be part of the school community.
Why do you think are Maths and Physics such important subjects?
Answer:
Maths and Physics teach students how to think logically, solve problems, and approach challenges with confidence. These skills extend far beyond the classroom and prepare students for a wide range of future opportunities.
What do you hope students gain from their time at Aspire?
Answer:
I hope students leave Aspire with strong academic foundations, resilience, and self belief. Just as importantly, I want them to develop curiosity, integrity, and the confidence to pursue their ambitions wherever life takes them.
